Starting Fall, 2012, Marlen will teach in the Department of Englsh and Writing at the University of Tampa in west, central Florida. He will teach first-year writing courses primarily for international students, utilizing his education and experience in second language teaching and composition. Dr. Marlen Elliot Harrison has been teaching composition & communication; language (TESOL) & literature; gender & sexuality; and social science research writing/methods at international universities in Asia, Europe and North America since 1997. As such he is a transdisciplinarian who is as much at home in the worlds of pedagogy and language teaching as in social linguistic and qualitative research methods. With 70+ international academic presentations – including TESOL, EuroCALL, JALT, AAAL, ASA, AAA and CCCC – and 30+ international academic publications including Qualitative Research in Psychology (USA), Language Learning in Higher Education (UK), Writing on the Edge (USA), Reflections on English Language Teaching (Singapore), CALL-EJ (Australia), and The Language Teacher (Japan) – he is passionate about researching the crossroads of technology, language, learning and identity. I ran into Crystal Green at an Osaka JALT event last night and talk again about far fewer than 6 degrees of separation as her research is related to what a colleague of mine is working on with his PhD studies at Temple in Japan into teacher self-efficacy (Max Praver maxpraver@mac.com).
Getting into Crystal’s blog allowed me to come across yours and the details on
a) the Writing Innovation study that has some parallels with an investigation into genre-based writing and the use/support/mediation through ICT that I am working on with a Souken Grant from Konan University – now in our second year. Thanks for sharing.
b) your new job… Congratulations… What you finally thought the Rays have a good enough baseball team to do some damage in the American League East?
