Jenni Kankaanpää, Outstanding Scholar, to have manuscript used in U Helsinki Master’s course

Jenni Kankaanpää, a student in the Department of Psychology at JYU and a course assistant and former student of Marlen’s, was recently awarded the first-ever Oustanding Scholar Award from the JYU Kielikampus (Language Campus). Jenni has recently presented her autoethnographic photography research at the European Federation of Psychology Students’ Association annual conference (2011), the New Dynamics in Language Learning conference at JYU (2011) and had her first manuscript published in a peer-reviewed online journal of education (2011).

Jenni conducted the research examining women’s self-image and empowering photography during her XENY002 Combined Academic English Skills course during the fall of 2010. Jenni then worked as a course assistant in the spring of 2011, encouraging and supporting other XENY002 students and becoming one of the first JYU students to receive credit for her experience in that role.

Having traveled to both Poland and Tanzania in the same six-month period, the first to present her research and the latter as a volunteer teacher, Jenni has just learned that her recently-published manuscript will be used in a graduate language teacher training course at University of Helsinki. The manuscript discussed her experience as a student and researcher in Marlen’s XENY002 course.

Well done, Jenni :)
