Dr. Harrison to Present on Blended Learning at Univ of Helsinki

Organised annually SULOP 2012 is an academic seminar about blended learning in higher education. The goal of blended learning is to unite the best features of in class teaching with the best features of online learning to promote active, self-directed learning opportunities for students. This seminar brings together teachers, scholars and other experts from various Sectors of Higher Education in Finland. One of only three English language presentations (March 8th, 2012), Dr. Harrison’s abstract is as follows:

Dr. Harrison Accepts Assistant Professorship at University of Tampa

Starting Fall, 2012, Marlen will teach in the Department of Englsh and Writing at the University of Tampa in west, central Florida. He will teach first-year writing courses primarily for international students, utilizing his education and experience in second language teaching and composition. Marlen is thrilled to be joining this dynamic and nationally renowned institution.

Dr. Harrison invited to join PhD dissertation committee

In January, 2012, Marlen was invited to join a PhD dissertation committee at the Unviersity of Jyväskylä that examines professional identity in teacher education. Crystal Green, PhD, University of Jyväskylä: Collaboration and Professional Identity in Teacher Education: A comparative study of Finland and Japan. See below for more details:

“This study seeks to contribute to discussions on the challenges and successes of developing teacher education by comparing Finnish and Japanese teacher educators’ collaboration within their professional learning communities. The research aims to consider individual subject identities, leadership within the learning community, and collaboration within and outside of the university. Japan and Finland have been chosen for comparison because of their unique similarities and differences, and my experience living in both countries.”
